Bas-Relief Panels

Material, texture, and the language of earth in relief

The bas-relief panel collection presented in this gallery captures the subtle patterns and morphologies of natural surfaces, as seen by me, and translated into tactile sculptural compositions that invite close observation and reflection. Inspired by landscapes, botanical forms and geological textures, each work reveals fine surface details where art and earth processes converge.

The panels are created using a gypsum-based mineral sculpting medium that offers exceptional workability and allows the integration of reclaimed and natural materials - including fibres, sand, gravels, metals, wood and discarded objects - without the need for kiln firing or synthetic polymer binders. Colour is achieved using natural oxides, while plant-based shellac provides a protective, organic finish.

The works range from abstract geological expressions to symbolic and botanical compositions, functioning as both standalone artworks and architectural elements.

Panels may be displayed unframed for a raw sculptural presence, or embedded in the walls of buildings, or mounted within timber or minimalist shadow-box frames to enhance depth and suit contemporary interiors.
